S07E07 - "THE DRAGON AND THE WOLF"

DELETED SCENE - "THE OLD GODS AND THE NEW"

March 24, 2019

This scene takes place a few days after the boatsex in S07E07. Dany and Jon are en route to White Harbor from Dragonstone.

INT. DANY'S FLAGSHIP - DANY'S CABIN - DAY
DANY
I swear you my fealty, and declare that I shall name none king but you.
DAENERYS TARGARYEN is sitting up in bed, leaning against the headboard, reading aloud from a book. JON SNOW is laying on his back with his head in her lap, eyes closed as though asleep.
DANY
(reading aloud)
I shall honor no laws but yours. I shall fight no wars but yours. I shall (serve no--)
JON
(eyes still closed)
I hate this one already.
Dany laughs and puts the book down, with a thumb marking her place.
DANY
You've hated all of them.
JON
There's a reason we're writing our own.
DANY
(humoring him)
And what do you hate about this one in particular?
JON
It's jealous. Makes the king sound like a spurned woman.
DANY
"A spurned woman."
JON
Figure of speech. Sorry.
Dany narrows her eyes at him, but lets it go. Jon shifts and shows her a scar on the back of his left shoulder.

2.
JON
See that? Ygritte put an arrow there when I left her. And another one here. And here.
DANY
And yet you escaped, despite her best efforts.
JON
"Her best efforts."
He gives Dany a look.
JON
Do you know how hard it is to put three arrows in someone without killing him? While he's galloping away on a horse?
Dany absorbs that.
DANY
She must have been quite a woman.
JON
She was.
Dany picks up on something in Jon's voice -- a note of regret.
DANY
(delicate)
How did she die?
JON
I betrayed her.
DANY
How so?
JON
I went home to the Night's Watch. Told them everything I knew.
Dany considers.
DANY
When you were together... did she know you were still loyal to the Night's Watch?
JON
She knew.

3.
DANY
So you didn't truly betray her. She knew your loyalties, and she took you anyway.
JON
I shouldn't have let her. I should have stopped her when...
He trails off.
DANY
Had you been with a woman before?
JON
That's no excuse.
DANY
Perhaps. But all the same, she made a choice. And so did you. She forced you to choose between love and duty.
Jon stares pensively up at the ceiling from her lap.
DANY
(gentle)
You won't have to make that choice again, Jon. Your people come first, always.
He looks up at her. He's moved by that. He regards her thoughtfully for a few moments.
JON
And if I ever left you? Would you put three more arrows in me?
DANY
What do you think?
JON
Feed me to your dragon?
DANY
(laughing)
What gives you that idea?

4.
JON
You have a reputation.
DANY
I am ruthless when it's right for me to be ruthless.
JON
So if I were to marry someone else...
DANY
I would bring your bride a wedding gift, and wish you all the happiness in the world.
JON
Really.
DANY
Mm hm.
JON
You would stand by and watch as I bind myself to another woman?
DANY
I would. And you would look at me and feel a deep and terrible regret.
Jon laughs. He sits up off her lap and scooches close to her.
JON
Are you familiar with the Westerosi bedding ceremony?
DANY
I've heard of it.
JON
Strange custom. A southern one. But perhaps I'll marry a southern girl.
Jon touches her lightly.
JON
You would stand by even then? As my wedding guests carry me off to bed with my bride?
DANY
I'm beginning to think you want me to be jealous.

5.
He grins and kisses her. She puts an arm around him and kisses him back.
Jon takes Dany and flips her down onto her back. He kisses her again, pressing his body against hers.
Dany clears her throat.
DANY
We're supposed to be working on the oaths.
JON
(solemn, earnest deadpan)
Daenerys Targaryen, first of your name. I swear to warm your bed and please your body.
DANY
(embarrassed)
Stop that.
JON
(same deadpan)
I swear to kiss your lips and fuck you breathless whenever called upon.
DANY
Stop!
He pulls up and looks at her critically.
JON
Really you should be swearing to me.
DANY
Is that so?
JON
I'm about to hand you my kingdom. Why should I swear anything until you've said your part?
DANY
It's traditional for the one serving to speak their oaths first.
JON
A ruler is a kind of servant. Besides, you're not traditional, and neither am I.

6.
She makes a thoughtful face. Then sits up, snags a quill and paper from the nightstand, and leans against the headboard once again. She props her book on her knees as a writing surface, gives Jon an appraising look, then starts to write.
Jon makes his way to the head of the bed as well and sits next to her. He watches her write, a thoughtful, critical expression on his face. For a while there's nothing but the quiet scratching of the quill, punctuated by the occasional pause or scratch-out.
JON
I like it.
Dany smiles and continues writing, as Jon watches.
